Here is a solution that works and installs quickly.
Remove the emergency cord from the lever of the garage door opener. Cut a clothes hanger to a 3” length and put the wire through the lever hole just above it. It’s a quick and easy fix. If you need to open the door manually, remove the wire and move the lever with your finger.
Click here for video - Park Improvement UpdatesPosted on: 2009-06-23We have had an overwhelming positive response from you in regards to our new park improvements. There are many children who have been enjoying the new playgrounds every day. As you may have noticed, the EVOS shade structure was put in place, then removed temporarily. The supporting poles did not match the play structure, so it was taken down to be painted. These items were part of the 2008 Spring neighborhood grant cycle ($80k). From the Fall neighborhood grant ($66k), these improvements are next to be completed:
1. The new Ramada between the two playgrounds will begin construction June 15th and should be completed in 7-10 days. The concrete slab will need to cure for about 2 weeks before the picnic tables can be placed. (These tables weigh 2,000 lbs each).
2. The basketball court will be refinished beginning the end of June. This process will take 7-10 days as well. The court will be painted in a contemporary tan and blue color scheme with white lines. This will coordinate nicely with the graphics on the exterior wall of the racquetball court.
3. A new drinking fountain will be installed with hi and low bowls as well as a dog bowl. This should be completed by August.
4. Additional benches for the park will be installed in October.
An extra bonus from the Parks and Recreation is the installation of a barbeque grill near the new Ramada. We did not request this in our grant, but they are throwing that in for us! This will make a great addition for all users. THANK YOU Parks and Recreation!
All of this would not be possible without the “partnership” of our neighborhood. This means we have a part in paying for this by volunteering our time and efforts. Since we cannot participate in these new projects, unlike building the new EVOS, we will need to get involved in other projects. We have decided to wait until the cooler months to do this, so keep your eyes open to mailers for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
These are exciting improvements for our neighborhood and we got these grants in just the right time! If you have any questions or suggestions, please call Danielle Martinez at 602-696-4327. Or visit our neighborhood website for updates: www.ThunderbirdPalms.com Thank you!! - This is a community alert from APS:Posted on: 2009-06-16APS is warning its customers that it has received reports of an individual falsely claiming to represent the company to gain entry into a customer’s home.
A Paradise Valley resident on Thursday reported that a man claiming to be an APS employee approached the residence, saying that he needed to gain entry into the home to test the electric system. Once inside the home, the man asked the resident to watch a light in the back bedroom to see if it flickered while he performed tests in another area of the home. It is believed the man may have used this opportunity to burglarize the home.
We have issued a news release describing the reported incident and what precautions and actions customers should take.
APS does not participate in practices like the one described above. Any customer who is contacted by a person claiming to be an APS employee should look and/or ask for the following:
An APS employee identification card with the APS logo and the employee’s photo; and
A clearly marked APS vehicle.
APS representatives may not always wear uniforms with the APS logo. However, all permanent employees are required to carry identification. On occasion, the company uses contract workers who are required to carry a letter of introduction from APS.
If there ever is a question about the validity of a person claiming to be an APS representative, customers are urged to ask for an employee identification number and to call the APS Customer Care Center at (602) 371-7171 to verify employee status.
If a person is misrepresenting himself/herself as an APS employee, customers should immediately call 911. - Scams and FraudsPosted on: 2009-03-16It seems that every time we turn around someone else is trying to take advantage of us. Work at Home Scam
Ads claim high earnings and short hours with little or no experience. - It's time to Build!!!Posted on: 2009-01-20The time is drawing near for our neighborhood to come together for our Community Build. All the details are set, the equipment ordered and now all we need is YOU.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 7th at 8:30am !
Join us at our Sunset Palms neighborhood park (55th Avenue and Sweetwater) for a fun project of assembling our new playground equipment. We need 30-40 volunteers (over the age of 16 years old). We have jobs for all types, so please call Neighborhood Leader Danielle Martinez at 602-696-4327 to sign up. There will be food and drinks to keep you going for the 4-5 hour build time. If you have been to any neighborhood meeting in the last year to discuss this project, you will be contacted by Danielle Martinez. If you do not hear from Danielle, please call her!
A Boy Scout troop will be finishing up the job in the afternoon (shoveling 80 yards of wood chips), but feel free to stick around as more hands means we finish earlier! We will also have a ribbon cutting ceremony on the same day to acknowledge all of your hard work.
Here is what you can expect the weeks prior to the 7th :
-- The park will be surveyed and aligned by a contractor.
-- Glendale Parks and Recreation will be removing irrigation lines and trees from the new EVOS playground area and removing the existing playground and swings.
-- Construction crews will be removing 14' of dirt from the EVOS area and will pour a concrete curbing around the perimeter.
-- Temporary safety fencing will be installed in both areas. (Note: both play areas will need time to cure and the fencing will remain up for a few days after we are completed)
-- New playground equipment for both areas will be delivered to the park. The Tot Lot play equipment will be installed by the playground manufacturer.
-- On February 6th, holes for the EVOS structure will be dug and materials unpacked and prepared for the next day. A paid security personnel will be in the park on the evenings of February 5th & 6th.
-- A group of team captains have already been assembled to coordinate the build and will be there early on February 7th, ready to go. Our installation expert, Kevin Solomon with Landscape Structures, has built over 30 of these playgrounds and will be our head 'go-to' guy. He is a real Pro and we will have an awesome, successful build!!
As you can see, a lot of time and energy has gone into this project. This is the result of our community raising our hand and applying for an $80k grant through the Neighborhood Partnership Office, which was approved last spring. Our wonderful City of Glendale makes this possible and we will all benefit from this improvement. This is our time to shine and give back to the community! We hope to see you on February 7th !
Fall Grant Update:
We were also approved for a $63,666 neighborhood grant to be used for a shade structure over the new EVOS playground, basketball court resurfacing, new drinking fountains with doggy stations, new ramada, concrete tables and benches. All this will be coming soon, so keep your eyes and ears open!
All updates will be posted right here on the website, so visit often!Click Here for the Volunteer Pledge Form - Thank you for coming!!Posted on: 2008-10-07What a great turnout we had for our neighborhood meeting on Sept. 17th. Over 30 of you attended to learn more about what was going on in our park. (click link for notes from meeting) Keep your eyes open to the new survey due to hit your mailbox within a week. We will have a final vote on the improvements to the park. These will be coming right from the Neighborhood Partnership Office and will need to be returned to them as well. Get your vote in!!
